No Reason Short Film Festival was born in Bristol in 2015 as an independent, amateur, non-profit, and accessible event.

It was created for anyone who would like to make a short film, without pretension—just the joy of telling their story.

There is no money involved, submission fees are free, nor in the awards.

Entries will be judged by an independent panel, and awards will be given in various categories.

But it’s not just about films! The festival also celebrates other forms of artistic expression, including performance and music. We are proud to collaborate with local artists, creating a platform for a diverse range of creative voices and fostering a true sense of local art expression.

No Reason is open to all ages, cultures, and abilities.

The festival is run by volunteers. While the event is partly funded by ticket and merchandise sales, we also welcome additional donations and sponsorship.

No Reason was born in March 2015 when a group of friends ran a film festival as part of a birthday celebration. The group was divided into teams who had to produce a film for the party. The screening was a success and the group decided to run a public event open to anyone who wanted to express their creativity in short film format.

The festival was called No Reason in honour of a film by Quentin Dupieux, "Rubber": “Because life itself is filled with no reason, the most powerful element of style”.

The first No Reason took place on 9th December 2015 at The Old England Pub. Nine short films were screened and more than one hundred people attended the event, who were asked to vote for the best film. The festival attracted huge interest and a new format was born: a cinematic event to which anyone could submit their work without the need for experience or professional equipment.

NO REASON IS NOT JUST A SHORT FILM FESTIVAL, IT IS A PLATFORM FOR EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO LET THEIR CREATIVITY LOOSE.

No Reason Short Film Festival has since grown exponentially, with 20 films submitted and more than 300 people attending the event. A panel of five judges from industry choose the winners in a number of categories, while the No Reason Film Award is given to the film chosen by the audience.

We work hard to make No Reason bigger every year while keeping intact its amateur spirit.
